New Webcam Added (13 March 2005)
The Sleep Cam has been added! I was doing a trial of this cam last week and it seems that everything is working, so I have added it to the menu. The actual equipment is a Sony Handi Cam with night vision which used to be "The Beagle Cam". The Beagle Cam is now a ViCam. Later today I will be mounting these two cams more permanently in their new positions... Cheers! - Brian.

Another gallery posted... We took Keara out for a long walk today, most of the leaves are off the trees now, and despite the warm sunshine, a cold wind was reinforcing winter's approach. November is my LEAST favorite month!!! On the bright side, we just returned from a wonderful vacation to sunny and warm Cancun. We had a wonderful trip, and hope the great memories will tide us over 'till spring, or our next trip, which ever comes first... Cheers! - Brian.

May 2004 Gallery Posted (02 August 2004)
OK May's gallery is posted, and I will start working of the June and July ones soon, but, summer is best spent out enjoying the nice weather. The new Job is keeping me busy too! Over the past month Keara has been recovering from having a slipped disc in her neck, so now that she is better we are able to start taking her on some longer walks. Today we visited the Toronto Islands and spent a very pleasant afternoon walking and taking in the sights! Cheers! - Brian.
Cam Changes (18 July 2004)
As you may have noticed, the Work Cam is no longer operational. I moved to a new job at a different hospital and there is no way for me to send cam images over the network at work now. The new environment is much more secure than at my old job.
I have set up a new cam at home which I call Spot Cam. The Spot Cam is not a 24 hour a day 7 day a week cam. It's more of a spontaneous cam. If there's something interesting going on, the Spot Cam can be used to focus in on the event. It's also a bit of an experimental cam, so I can capture new angles and views of our life. Howdy! Well it finally happened, another gallery has been posted and I'm about to start on the next month's images. Here in Toronto spring is well underway, with the leaves coming out and the grass regaining it's emerald green glow, so typical of spring in Ontario. Thom and I have been out hiking a few times this spring , but this weekend it's raining :-( Oh well at least it's not snowing! Well, back to the sorting of April's images...Cheers! - Brian.
February 2004 Gallery Posted (29 March 2004)
I have been very busy at work and very lazy at home, so everything is behind schedule again... Oh well at least this gallery is up before the end of the month. After having worked with the new Creative Nx Pro cam for a while I decided that it is not suited to our environment. It's OK as a face cam, for close up shots etc., but it does not do well in low or unusual lighting conditions. It does have good colour saturation, which is typical of CMOS type cameras, but, the image rendered is not as sharp or detailed as a CCD type cam. So, I located and purchased a few new Vicams (3Com Home Connect cams) and have replaced the office cam and the new mobile cam using the 3Com/Vicam. Spring is making it's debut here, finally, and we have already been out hiking once. The woods sure are still and gray looking, but you can sense that is about to change, everywhere you look there are signs that life is about to go into high gear! Can't wait!!! Cheers! - Brian.
New Cam Installed (08 February 2004)
Today I set up a new cam which I am calling "Mobile Cam". This may not be permanent however, I wanted to test a new webcam, the Creative Nx Pro as our old Vicams may give out at any day. I have heard GREAT things about the Nx Pro and so far they seem to be true. Let me know how you like the image. Of course this will probably mean we will shuffle some of the cams around - please be patient if you find the usual views have changed. It is harder to create good views in our new condo, so we will try out some different angles. The new Mobile Cam is actually our second mobile... The first is called Cool Cam, that name is historic and dates back to The name of Thom's original Vicam (which is still running after five years!!!) Hope you like the changes... Cheers! - Brian.

OK! I'm up to date! Man, winter can be a boring time of year, good thing though, since it gives me time to get caught up with gallery building. Actually things haven't been too boring, but, according to Wiarton Willy our local ground hog who saw his shadow when he came out today, we are headed for 6 more weeks of winter... Oh well I can use a few more cold weekends to clean up my file system before my computer becomes overloaded... We've been on vacation over the New Years Holiday period! Thom and I went to Costa Rica, which was a great trip. I have been there a number of times in the past, but it was a first trip for Thom. It was a very relaxing trip, especially the days spent in Manuel Antonio on the west coast.
We took lots of pictures, I got a new camera prior to the trip and wanted to give it a real trial. I am very pleased with it, I was using a Canon Powershot Pro70 up 'till now, the new one is a Canon Powershot G5. It is so much more advanced than the old one! Thom is working on a travelogue, a very time consuming task, but, as you may know, worth waiting for.

I can't believe I'm still so far behind with these gallery postings... Oh well I can tell by the shorter colder days and all the leaves turning colour that I will be spending more time at the computer in the near future... Lots of cool things happened in August... Thom got theater surround sound (for the TV) for his Birthday. The air show started and we had a good view from our living room window, we also had a good view of the Fireworks at the Canadian National Exhibition. Well, it's here! the Gallery you have all been waiting for, the huge the colossal the stupendous MEGA MOVE GALLERY (June 2003 Gallery). One hundred images of the fun, sweat, toil, heartache, pain, and tender moments of a major domestic move. Oy Veh! such schmaltz for a bunch of schlepping and kvetching (?sp). Oh well it's over and done, now back to some real summer living!
This past weekend Thom and I spent a great long weekend in Manhattan with our friends Tom and Collin from California. It was a very busy few days, but we really enjoyed our selves despite mother nature doing her best to make us wet every time we passed through Times Square. May 2003 Gallery Posted (13 July 2003)
Finally getting back to normal after completing the move to our new place! I never imagined there could be so much work to do!! We still have lots to catch up on, the galleries are only on of those things which have fallen behind schedule.
By the end of May we were busy packing and getting ready for the move and the all the changes which were to invade our lives! With only a few days to go before taking possession of the new place the packing seemed more urgent than it did at the beginning of May. I tried to pace things so that we would not end up being exhausted. I had several conferences to attend during May, one of which was in Chicago, Thom came for that trip and we got to see some sights along with doing the conference. Pictures of that trip will be posted later in the summer. I also took some time off work to prepare for the move.
The gallery can't begin to capture the frantic pace of May, but I hope you will enjoy the images! Cheers! - Brian.
Brian & Thom Moving & April 2003 Gallery Posted (05 May 2003)
April's Gallery is now online. You will notice lots of boxes lying around the place in the gallery pics, and when you check the cams online. In March Thom and I found a condo we really like near lake Lake Ontario on the west side of Toronto, we decided to buy it and move there in June. The big concern was selling the existing condo, it was the beginning of the war in Iraq and winter weather was persisting longer than usual. We got a nice sunny weekend near the end of March and sold the place after only 6 days on the market!!! What a relief!
Over the next few weeks the scene from the webcams will change dramatically as we get ready to move. The cams will be off line for a few days in the first or second weeks of June for the actual move. Stay tuned for all the moving madness, and a first look at the new place sometime around the middle to end of the second week of June. The May Gallery may not appear on time, it depends on how busy I get with moving... Wish us luck! Cheers! - Brian.

Cool Cam On the Move (31 January 2003)
More cam changes to pass along. We recently added a wireless access point to our network at home. This enabled us to put Thom's old laptop, from his university days, back to work as a wireless image server for the Cool Cam images. It's interesting since Thom's original Web Cam Site was run from this machine. The outcome of this development is that you should find the Cool Cam pointed in a variety of new directions in the future giving you a better look into corners of our place you may not have seen before. New Cam Added (29 January 2003)
Hello everyone! We have recently made a change to our cams. The "Sol Cam" has been moved into the main office area and faces the opposite direction to the existing "Desk Cam". I am calling the new cam "Desk Cam 2". Since we are in the office most of the time we decided that this is a better place for the former "Sol Cam" which seldom captured images of any activity. The combination of the two desk cams will provide a more complete view of the office. Cheers! - Brian.

Hi Folks! Well the "new" version of the site is now online. The new menu system is able to grow without adding significantly to the loading time of the pages. The old menu really SLOWED things down. Please let me know if you find things that don't work properly. I have tested this menu in every browser I could get my hands on and it works well in every one. Cheers! - Brian.

Well, another MONSTER gallery has been posted to the site. May was a very busy month. Thom and I took a week off to do some renovations around home, adding some much needed storage space and some display cabinets. I also got rid of one of the desks from the solarium office and fixed the other one to stand alone, it had been attached to the desk I got rid of. We also had company several times, Some Brazilian friends of Thom's and a friend of mine from Vancouver, with whom I went to High school. So, I hope you are all on High Speed internet of some kind... New Webcam Installed (18 March 2002)
Hi Folks! Today I set up a new cam! I know, I know, but five cams just didn't cover all the spaces we get into. The new cam "Sol Cam" shows the solarium, an area of the condo where we used to do most of our computer activities. When we moved into the new office space the area was left without a cam.
I still have computers out there, in fact I use the area as my computer workshop. We will be making some changes to the area over the spring so stay tuned to the Sol Cam for the renovations.

Beagle Cam Replaced (26 December 2001)
For the last few months I have been noticing that the Beagle Cam images have been deteriorating in quality. The Sony Handy Cam that I have been using is nearly 10 years old, so today, being boxing day, I went out and bought a new Sony Cam. This one has some cool features like "Night Shot" which allows images to be captured in the dark, so, you may see the Beagle Cam doing double duty as a sleep cam.

I have just posted the November 2001 Gallery! Wow! posted on time this month. As noted last entry I was trying to come up with a way to get caught up with my gallery postings. The plan is each day I make sure that I'm working on the current month's gallery so that it is finished at the end of the month. The hitch to this plan is that I have August, September and October to work on in between. I hope to have all these posted be the end of the year... Hmm... Depends on how busy December is ;-)

It's amazing how a busy life can "get in the way" of your plans. Not that I'm complaining I'm having a great time traveling and entertaining etc... Life with Thom gets better and better! Today I have posted version 2 of my site. It still needs a lot of "tweeking" but all the basics are there and working.
This is really a "New Look" more than a completely redeveloped site. The menu functions ARE completely new and designed to eliminate multiple layers of browsing. I hope this means finding what you are looking for more directly.

The Mach 2001 Gallery has been loaded! March was a month of fun and visits from friends from out of town! We had the honour of visits from Tom and Brian from California, Gordon from Nova Scotia, Ken from Toronto, and Jan Harm & Sjoerd from Amsterdam! WOW it was Great to see all those friends! Recently Thom and I have been making some changes to the "behind the scenes coding" of our sites to improve their operation and viability. If anyone is having any problems with the sites let us know.

As you have probably noticed there has been a lot of activity around my apartment lately. This is because my partner Thom has moved in and we are in the process of finding spaces for everything. It is a very exciting time for us, and you are invited to tune and check out our progress.

WorkCam Back Online! (18 October 2000)
Well, it seems there are no shortages in the miracle department! After a lengthy reorganization of our network at the office, my WorkCam is now back on line. I had been considering taking it off my menu altogether, but, yesterday our IT Ops manager was in my office and inquired how the cam was working out. I told him it was still not working, and to my surprise he said "I'll have it working for you today"... He was as good as his word!!!

I've been having a great summer, but unfortunately this has left little time for the site. More Travel & New Gallery (20 July 2000)
I'm on the road again! this time to Chicago for about a week. I leave on Monday 24 July and come back Friday 28 July! Travel Alert! (23 June 2000)
I will be traveling to Vancouver today, returning late on the 27th. I'll be taking the cam with me, and I expect to be able to be on line for a few hours each day, a little while in the mornings and longer in the evenings!

Major System Crash: (11 April 2000)
I recently had a major system crash, lost the entire boot drive of my main system! Things are just starting to get back to normal, so for the next little while the image uploads may be interrupted occasionally while I install all the missing pieces!
Cam Gallery for March now online: (02 April 2000)
The March Cam Gallery is now available for viewing - This is the first gallery to contain images from the new Desk Cam and Work Cam. I think this gives a better rounded view of my life. :-)
New Expanded Cam Galleries: (26 March 2000)
The Cam Galleries are now up-to-date. There is a separate gallery for each month of the year since I started the site. Access all the galleries by clicking the Cam Galleries button on the main menu.
Recent Cam Shots Feature Expanded: (26 March 2000)
The Recent Cam Shots button will now take you, by default, to the recent Beagle Cam shots with options to go to recent shots pages for the new Desk Cam and Work Cam.
Cam Refresh Rate: (26 March 2000)
After a month of following my site stats closely I have found that I will be able to run the cams at a faster refresh rate after all. I have been using a 45 second refresh rate. Effective immediately the cams will refresh every 30 seconds!!!
Two New Cams: (08 March 2000)
The Webcams Page has been revised and now includes two new views of my life. The original cam known as The Beagle Cam is the default entry for this page. I have added a cam which is called the Desk Cam that focuses on activities around my desk at home. I have also added a cam at my desk at the office. I call this cam the Work Cam, real creative eh?
Of course each of my 3 cams has a remote window feature, so you can watch and keep on browsing! I also have buttons on the Webcams page to link you directly to both of the cams of ThomOnTheNet!
To make room for the new cams I moved the buttons for the Cam Galleries, the Chat Room and the Recent Cam Shots to the main menu on the left of the screen. Enjoy! - Brian.
